Medical school Queen’s. Surgical training UofT. Fellowship critical care UofT. Clin Epi McMaster.
Why do you work in Ottawa?
I grew up in Ottawa and always looked forward to returning here. Great place to live and raise a family. Great outdoors opportunities.
What do you like about training residents?
I like to see residents progress from being novices to capable surgeons.
What is your favourite thing to teach?
Surgical skills and care of the critically ill patient
What do you do outside of work?
Cycling, Snowboarding, Travel (preCovid), Wine appreciation.
What do you like about being a division chief?
The opportunity to really advocate for our surgical patients and our surgeons. The opportunity to mentor and coach surgical residents and junior faculty.
What is your vision for the future of the residency program?
To train surgical residents to be the very best they can be in whatever setting they eventually practice.
What are you the most proud of in your professional life?
Over the years that would be my ability to provide the best of care for surgical patients, trauma patients and ICU patients. I am also very proud of having been influential in training surgical residents to be capable surgeons and good people.
What should people know about you?
I have a great deal of satisfaction from my long and successful surgical career. I value my family life. I really enjoy interacting with people (Covid has been tough on me that way).
