CARMS Profile - Dr. Nicole Kolozsvari
Where did you train?
I did medical school at Western, followed by both my residency and fellowship at McGill.
What do you like about general surgery?
Just like I said in my residency interviews, I love the diversity of general surgery.
I still think it's amazing that in the same night we can take care of straight forward problems in healthy patients who do well and go home the next morning, followed by a really sick and complex patient who will be with us for a while.
Do you have a special role in the residency program? What do you do?
I am our unit's education lead, helping guide residents to our service, and I am the bariatric surgery program director.
What do you like about training residents?
My favourite thing is watching the evolution from very junior learner, trying to keep all the balls in the air, to competent surgeons who I am proud to have as peers. I enjoy sharing my passion for surgery and hopefully seeing residents as excited about a certain case I am. I love seeing when things "click" for a learner, especially if I had a part in getting them there
What do you do outside of work?
I enjoy spending time outside with my family, and we try to spend some time hiking or on the water most weekends. I also love to travel, and look forward to getting back to it after the pandemic.
